Description

Gentleman’s Lane House is a house dating back to the 17th century, which was later refronted in the 19th century. The returns and rear of the house retain small timber framing with brick nogging, while the front façade is brick in stretcher bond. The roof is covered in plain tiles.

The house is a single-storey building with an attic, originally featuring a two-window front. An outshut is located to the rear left, under a catslide roof, and a further extension is present to the rear right. The central entrance has a plank door set within a moulded wood surround, topped by an elliptical arch. There are two tripartite metal casements, also set within elliptical arches. Two gabled dormers have wood casements. External stacks have cornices.

The interior reveals extensive timber framing. There are plank doors, and to the right is an inglenook fireplace with a plank cupboard to the side, featuring incised decoration to the frame. A winder staircase is present, along with chamfered beams. A further inglenook fireplace, with a bressumer beam, is located to the left. The first floor has exposed purlins.
