Description

The New Inn is a row of three cottages dating from the 17th century, located on Bleachfield Street, Alcester. The cottages are timber-framed with brick infill, and have a late 20th-century tile roof and brick stacks. They form a U-shaped plan, are one storey high with an attic, and have a five-window front. Number 21 has a plank door, Number 23 has a four-panelled door, and Number 25 has a late 20th-century door. The windows are mostly late 20th-century casements. Number 21 has small, late 20th-century dormers, and Number 25 has small rectangular bay and half dormers. The left gable end of the row exhibits complete exposed timber framing with jowled posts. To the rear, Numbers 21 and 23 have a wing with a large gable and exposed framing, while the timber-framed wing of Number 25 is obscured by later additions. The interior of Number 21 features exposed timber framing, some exposed wattle infill, a corner open fireplace, and winder stairs. Group value is evidenced by this property’s contribution to the surrounding streetscape.
