Description

This is a 17th-century cowhouse and outbuilding, with a 19th-century stable addition, located at Holyoake Farmhouse and Holyoake House. The original structure is timber-framed with whitewashed brick infill - the outbuilding section has been entirely refaced in whitewashed brick. The stable is built of red brick. The building has old tile roofing and an L-shaped layout with a shorter outbuilding wing attached to Holyoake Farmhouse. It is a single-storey building with a loft. The cowhouse section has three bays, and the outbuilding two. The yard-facing side of the cowhouse has single and double plank doors. The outbuilding features a gate within a segmental arched opening. The 19th-century stable on the left side has a stable door and a small opening. The road-facing side of the cowhouse has a central plank door, a hayloft door above, and a small window. The left return side has a 20th-century casement window. Internally, the cowhouse features a double-framed roof and a trough. The stable retains a hayrack. A portion of the outbuilding was later converted into a dairy.
