Description
Elmdene is a house that likely dates from the early 18th century and was remodeled in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of pinkish-brown brick, with a section of small, square panels of timber-framing at the rear. The roof is covered with plain tiles and features brick stacks. The house has a three-unit plan and is built in two stages, with the left range being slightly taller than the right, which includes a 20th-century garage.
The exterior is a single storey with an attic and has a five-window range. There is a 20th-century plank door set under an elliptical arch. To the left, there is a renewed 20th-century bow window, and to the right, a multi-pane casement window. In the attic, there is a small casement window to the left, followed by four gabled dormers, all featuring multi-pane casements. The gabled roofs have external end stacks.
Inside, the rear wall and first floor display exposed timber-framing. The ceilings are beamed, and there are exposed purlins. Elmdene is part of a group that includes Wood Lane Farmhouse, Appletree Cottage, and Vine Cottage.
