Description
Poacher's Cottage is a house located in Bearley, likely built in the mid to late 18th century, with an addition on the left side and another addition from around 1980 at the far left and to the rear. The original section features small, square panels of timber-framing on the front, right side, and rear, with pinkish-brown brick nogging set on a blue lias stone plinth on the right side and rear. The rest of the structure is made of brick, topped with a plain-tile roof and a brick chimney stack. The earlier part of the house has a two-unit plan and is two storeys high with a three-window range. There is a 20th-century entrance leading to a 20th-century porch on the left. The ground and attic floors have 20th-century casement windows with glazing bars. The extensions also feature similar casements, one on each floor of each addition, and have gabled roofs with a ridge stack that includes a cornice. Inside, the earlier part of the house showcases exposed chamfered beams and rafters, as well as a bressumer beam, with extensive timber-framing visible on the right side of the first floor.
