Description
The Encore Public House is a public house located on Bridge Street in Stratford-upon-Avon. The facade dates from around 1800 but is possibly part of a building from the 16th century. It features a stuccoed brick exterior and a hipped tile roof with brick stacks. The building is L-shaped and has two storeys with a five-window range. There are end pilasters and a top cornice, along with a wide 20th-century entrance to the right of the center.
The ground floor windows have sills and small-paned glazing, with canted bay windows on the left end featuring 3:9:3-pane sashes. The first floor has windows with plain surrounds, friezes, and cornices above 16-pane sashes, as well as two painted blind windows. A 20th-century fascia board runs across the facade above the ground floor. The left return of the building has a two-window return and a later two-storey range with casements and 12-pane sashes. There is also a short rear wing under a hipped roof. Historically, the building was known as The Bear Inn in the 16th century.
