Description

Mount Farmhouse is a farmhouse incorporating a 15th/16th century rear wing and 18th-century front ranges, with later alterations. It is constructed of regular coursed ironstone, with slate roofs, coped gable parapets, and stone ridge and lateral stacks. The house follows an L-shaped plan, with a wing extending to the rear on the left. The two--storey main façade has a three-window range. The irregular front has an entrance positioned at the right end, accessed through a 20th-century stone porch with a coped gable and a leaded light and half-glazed door in the return side. A blocked doorway is located at the left end of the right range, and a half-glazed door is present in the left range at a lower level. The windows are a mix of leaded 2, 3 and 4-light casements. On the right, the ground floor 3-light and first-floor 4-light casements are topped with stone lintels featuring keystones; other openings have painted wood lintels, some of which are old. Gabled parapets are present on the left, while the right-hand section has a hipped roof. The left return side features 2-light stone-mullioned windows with hood moulds. The right return side includes old casements, a 20th-century three-light mullioned window, and one and 2-light old mullioned windows. A substantial external stack incorporates two 19th-century square stone shafts. At the rear, the irregular main range has leaded light casements and mullioned windows, some of which are 20th century. The higher wing to the left has stone mullioned windows with hood moulds throughout. Its single-window front incorporates 3-light and 2-light attic windows and a coped gable parapet. The right return side of this wing features 3-light windows to the left, with lengthened ground floor openings, and a 2-light window to the right. A mullion has been removed from the first floor of this window. The interior was not inspected. The building holds group value.
