Description
The White Lion is a house that dates from the late 17th century, with additions made in the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed from regularly coursed limestone rubble and features a steeply pitched tile roof. The gables are stone coped and have moulded kneelers, while there are brick stacks at the ends. The building is designed in an L-shape and has two storeys plus an attic.
The front has a three-window range, which includes a gable-fronted bay on the right. The ground floor features sash windows with glazing bars and keyblock stone surrounds, along with a 20th-century bay window to the right that has a hipped roof. On the first floor, there are more sash windows with glazing bars and stone heads, and the sash window on the right has a stop-chamfered wood lintel. The entrance is located at the rear, where there is also a brick extension. The roof has two gabled dormers with lead cames and crown glass.
Inside, there is a wooden winder staircase, an open fireplace in the kitchen, a stone fireplace in the main room, and a four-centred arched wood door-frame on the first floor. The roof structure dates from the 18th century. This building was formerly known as the White Lion Public House.
