Description
Sykes is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the late 17th century. It is built of squared coursed limestone rubble and features a steeply pitched red tile roof with stone ridge and end stacks, the left stack being rendered. The building is two storeys high and has a T plan layout.
The elevation facing the road has a two-window range, with the main part featuring a projecting wing to the right. The main section has an off-centre entrance to the right, which includes a 20th-century plank door and a wood lintel. To the left of the entrance is a wood casement window with a hood mould and label stops. To the right, there is a three-light stone-mullioned window, also with a hood mould and label stops. On the first floor, there are two three-light stone-mullioned windows, each with hood moulds and label stops, and a fire plaque above the first-floor window.
The wing is single storey plus attic and features three-light stone-mullioned windows with hood moulds and label stops on both floors, along with stone coping. A sundial is located at the base of the end stack. The interior is said to contain an inglenook, beams, and a wattle and daub partition in the attic.
