Description
Oversley Grange Farmhouse, now two houses, dates primarily to the 17th century, with significant additions and alterations in the mid-to-late 19th century; the right wing, known as Oversley Grange, was refaced and largely rebuilt during this period. The building is timber framed with whitewashed brick infill, with the right wing being mostly brick and having a roughcast front. It has an old tile roof and brick stacks. The house has an L-shaped layout. It is two storeys high with a four-window front, featuring three projecting gabled wings. The left wing has exposed timber framing with jowled posts. A 19th-century open porch sits between the left and central wings, leading to a half-glazed door. A catslide roof is present with a dormer. The central and right wings incorporate large, two-storey canted bays covered with fish scale tile roofs. Casement windows with varied glazing bars are found throughout, along with 19th and 20th-century additions. The central wing has a brick external stack with two shafts on the left side. The left return side reveals exposed timber framing, with a 20th-century door and glazed porch, and a 19th-century two-window range beyond. Ground floor windows are set within segmental brick arches. The right return side has irregular window placement, while a large 17th-century external stack at the right corner features star shafts constructed of thin bricks. The rear of the building is brick with irregular window openings. Inside the left wing are broad-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, an altered winder staircase, and a through-purlin roof. Oversley Grange retains broad-chamfered beams and some exposed framing on the first floor.
