Description
The Bruton/Newland Monument, located approximately 18 meters south of the porch of the Church of St Peter, is a Grade II listed structure commemorating members of the Bruton and Newland families. It honors George and Elizabeth Bruton, who died in 1846; Elizabeth's parents, William and Sarah Newland, who passed away in 1812 and 1831; her brother William, who died in 1798; their sons George and Edward Bruton, who died in 1875 and 1876; and Mary Bruton, who died in the 1770s. The monument was likely created around 1846. It is constructed of ashlar stone with marble panels and features a tall octagonal shape, a moulded plinth, and a cornice topped with a shallow pyramidal cap. The faces of the monument include roll-mouldings and projecting inscription panels.
