Description

Two houses, 14 and 16 Church Street, date from the mid-18th century and are located on the east side of Church Street in Shipston on Stour. The houses are constructed of squared, coursed lias and limestone with quoins, featuring a moulded eaves cornice and a coped gable to the left. The roof is tiled, with a brick ridge and end stacks, the left-hand stack retaining its original stone base. The houses are two storeys plus an attic, arranged with a six-window front. Each house has a two-unit plan. The left-hand house has a six-panelled door set within a moulded wooden surround and a hood. A second six-panelled door sits centrally, while a four-panelled door with a plain overlight is situated on the right-hand side. An early 19th-century bay window is present to the centre-left, complemented by a later 19th-century canted bay to the right. The ground floor features sash windows with 16 panes, and there are also 16-pane sashes on the first floor, all aligned with the central openings. Four 19th-century gabled dormers are visible, three featuring 20th-century casements. A ‘sun’ County firemark is fixed to the centre of the building. The interiors were not inspected at the time of listing, but are likely to contain features of interest.
