Description
Burmington Farmhouse and the attached cartshed is a farmhouse that dates back to the 17th century at the rear and is dated 1730. It is constructed from limestone and brick, featuring Flemish bond with some flared headers arranged in two diamond patterns. The building has a limestone plinth, quoins, and coped gables, topped with a stone slate roof that has brick end stacks with stone bases. The farmhouse is two storeys plus an attic and has a three-window range with a three-unit plan.
The entrance, located to the centre right, features a four-panelled door with a large semi-circular hood. Both the ground and first floors have three wood cross casements with cambered arches, and there are three gabled dormers. On the first floor, to the centre left and centre right, there are stone panels, with the right panel inscribed 'NG/I730' and a lead 'Britannia' firemark above it. To the right of the farmhouse, there is an 18th-century stone and part 19th-century brick one-storey range that includes a plank stable door to the left and two cross casements with wood lintels.
Attached to the left of the farmhouse is an 18th-century stone cartshed with a stone slate roof and double plank doors. The 17th-century rear of the house features a three-light mullioned window in the stair tower. Inside, there are stone flagged floors, and in the room to the left, there is a 17th-century stone fireplace in the corner with a four-centred arch and a moulded surround and spandrels. The room also has a moulded cornice and a further open fireplace with an ovolo-moulded timber bressumer, as well as a chamfered spine beam with jewel stops.
