Description

Two cottages stand on the north side of Burmington The Lane, dating to the late 18th century. The cottage on the left is built of squared, coursed limestone with a coped gable, while the cottage to the right is constructed of brick in a Flemish bond pattern. Both have stone slate roofs; the left cottage has an ashlar end stack, and the right has a ridge stack. The cottages are one storey high with an attic, originally featuring a three-window front. The layout consists of a two-unit plan on the left and a three-unit plan on the right. The left cottage has a 20th-century door in the left gable end and two 20th-century casement windows to the front, along with 20th-century dormers. The right cottage features a plank stable door with a gabled hood in the centre, flanked by 20th-century windows set within original openings with segmental heads. A further two-light casement window with a segmental head is situated to the left. Two large gabled dormers with 20th-century casements are also present. The interiors were not inspected. The cottages are listed primarily for their group value.
