Description
The Old Cottage is a house dating from the late 17th century, with later alterations. It is constructed of finely jointed coursed limestone rubble and features a steeply pitched stone slate roof laid to diminishing courses. There is a brick end stack on the left and a partly renewed stone end stack on the right, along with moulded stone copings and ironstone quoins. The building has two storeys and a two-window range, following a T-plan layout.
The entrance is located off-centre to the left and is accessed via semi-circular stone steps. It features a wooden door frame with a six-panelled door that includes two glazed panels and a stone lintel above. To the left of the entrance is an iron bootscraper. On the right side, there is a three-light casement window with stone surrounds, a hood mould, and label stops. The first floor has three three-light wooden casement windows with glazing bars and wrought-iron springs, supported by wooden lintels. There are also two 20th-century roof dormers. The rear of the cottage includes a gabled bay that has two storeys plus an attic. The interior has not been inspected.
