Description

Stourton Manor House and the attached barn is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with later additions from the 17th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone and features coped gables. The roofs are covered with 20th-century tiles and stone slates, and there are stone ridge and end stacks. The building has a T-shaped plan and stands two storeys plus an attic. The front has a three-window range of 18th and 19th-century two- and three-light casements with wooden lintels. A 17th-century plank door with decorative strap hinges and an ovolo-moulded wooden surround is located in the left gable end. The left facade also has two ovolo-moulded wooden mullioned windows on the first floor. There is a long 17th-century range extending to the rear, with a barn attached at the end, connected by a 20th-century cottage infill. The rear of the house features two additional 17th-century wooden plank doors, one also with decorative strap hinges.

Inside, the ground floors are stone flagged, and there are plank and moulded-muntin partitions throughout. The ground floor also has plank and moulded-muntin doors. A large open fireplace features an ovolo-moulded bressumer with ogee stops, and there is another open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer and ogee stops. The interior includes an ovolo-moulded spine beam and double ovolo-moulded beams, along with chamfered beams that have ogee stops. A dog-leg staircase leads to the attics within a well featuring plank and moulded-muntin construction. The first floor continues the theme with plank and moulded-muntin partitions and doors, as well as small open fireplaces with ovolo-moulded bressumers. The roof structure includes trenched purlins with collars, along with 17th-century timber partitions and plank doors. The barn, which has three bays, features a queen strut roof, although the purlins have been replaced.
