Description
A terrace of four houses located on Shakespeare Street, Stratford-upon-Avon, built between 1836 and 1837. The houses are constructed of brick with buff brick headers and stucco dressings, and have a slate roof with two brick stacks arranged axially. Designed in a Georgian style, they stand two storeys high with an eight-window frontage. Plain eaves run along the top. The entrances are topped by brick flat arches with stucco keys; numbers 35 and 36 have 20th-century doors, number 37 has a four-panel door, and number 38 and the entry at the right-hand end have six-flush-panel doors. The windows have sills, brick flat arches, and stucco keys above. These windows originally featured 16-pane sashes on the ground floor and 9-pane sashes on the first floor, although number 35 now has 20th-century small-paned casements. A well-preserved central rainwater head is also a feature. These houses are part of the early 19th-century development of the north side of Stratford, frequently referred to as New Town.
