Arden House

Arden House is a house dating from the early 17th century. It is timber framed with plaster infill, and the left section is underbuilt and plastered. The house has a tile roof and a single brick internal stack. It features a 2-unit plan with a former through passage and stands two storeys high with a two-window range. The first floor juts out on the right, supported by a broad gable and a curved bracket, and is partly underbuilt in timber framing. There is a smaller gable on the left side. The entrance has a 20th-century half-glazed door set in a moulded wood surround. The windows include 18th and 19th-century casements, as well as some late 20th-century ones, most of which have thin glazing bars. The left end wall has late 20th-century boarding. At the rear, there is a large gable with exposed framing, which has been built out on the ground floor. Inside, the house features exposed framing and an open fireplace in the room on the left, which may not be original. There is a straight flight of stairs, and the first-floor room on the right has exposed windbraces of the roof. It also contains 19th-century panelled doors and a built-in dresser. An early to mid-19th-century whitewashed brick stable block is now partially incorporated into the house, connected by a later addition.
