Description
Hardwick House is a house that has been converted into shops. It dates from the 17th century, with an early 19th-century front range. The building is timber framed with brick infill, while the front range is finished in colour-washed brick and features a brick dentil cornice. It has a tiled roof and brick ridge chimneys, with a brick gable parapet on the right side. The layout includes a central staircase plan, and the house is two storeys high with an attic that has three hipped dormers and a three-window range. The central entrance features a four-panelled door with an overlight that has glazing bars, all set within a wooden doorcase with pilasters and an entablature. There are two late 19th-century canted bay windows, and a wooden string course runs across the entire facade. The first floor has 16-pane sash windows beneath gauged brick flat arches. At the rear, there is a timber-framed wing, with the ground floor left return wall and end wall rebuilt in 19th-century brick. The interior has not been inspected, and there is a single-storey attached outbuilding from the 19th century.
