Description

Red Horse House and Red Horse Stables are a former inn, now divided into three houses, dating to the mid to late 17th century, with later alterations recognised as having group value. The building is constructed of colourwashed brick with a brick string course and a wooden cornice featuring modillions. It has an old tile roof with a brick ridge and internal stacks. The arrangement is U-shaped, incorporating a central carriageway. The building is two storeys and an attic, with a five-window front. Number 27 has a flat, six-panelled door within a simple wooden frame, and a hood supported by shaped brackets. Red Horse House features two late 19th-century public house windows, one of which is paired with a half-glazed door to the right. Surroundings include wooden pilasters, entablatures, and decorative sills. The windows are a mix of leaded light casements and cross windows, set within gauged brick flat arches on both the ground and first floors. The attic has five pedimented two-light roof dormers. A shaped plaster panel is located centrally on the first floor. Two inn sign brackets are present. Inside Number 27, some chamfered ceiling beams remain, along with a winder staircase. Original features include old plank doors with strap hinges, a two-panelled door with H-shaped hinges, and a front door with large L-shaped hinges. A rear stable wing has been converted into residential space in the late 20th century.
