Description
The White Horse Public House is a building that was originally a single house, dating back to its construction as a two-storey structure with a basement at the rear, where the ground slopes down towards the river. It is five windows wide and was originally two rooms deep, featuring a central doorway that led into a passage. The building has since been divided into a public house and a shop.
The roof is slate, with brick chimneys; the western chimney is made of yellow brick, while the eastern chimney, located at the rear of the ridge, is constructed of smaller, flatter red bricks, which are likely original, and has been raised with yellow bricks. The brick walls are known to be in English Bond but are now rendered.
On the street facade, the first floor features five horned sash windows, each with four large panes. The ground floor has shop and public house fronts that are in a late 19th century to early 20th century style, along with one sash window. The dormers in the roof are probably additions from the early 20th century.
At the rear of the building, the original structure is obscured by later additions, primarily from the late 19th and 20th centuries.
