Description
The Fountain Hotel is a three-storey building with an asymmetrical elevation, likely dating from the 18th century, with the roof raised in the early 19th century. It features a slate roof with stone chimneys, including a high extension in red brick on the eastern side.
The front of the building is partly timber framed and roughcast rendered, with a smooth band below the first-floor windows. The second floor has three almost square, nine-pane hornless sash windows that are set shallowly. The first floor contains two taller, twelve-pane horned sash windows that are almost flush with the wall. On the ground floor, there is a central low doorway flanked by three very shallow bay windows with small pane glazing. These bays have been restored but can be seen in photographs from the 1860s. Between the right bays, there are further small windows.
