Description
4 Broad Street is a three-storey building with a slate roof and a yellow brick chimney on the right. The front features partially timber-framed construction with painted smooth render that has scribed lines to imitate ashlar. The rear shows a mix of materials, with rubble stone on the ground and first floors and a later extension in red brick on the second floor.
The building has an eight-window front arranged in two groups of four. It has a low-pitched roof with deeply overhanging boarded eaves. The windows are generally small pane hornless sashes, although there have been some changes. The windows are set very shallow, with the second-floor windows located under the eaves, featuring nine panes (the second and sixth windows from the left are blocked). The first-floor windows are taller, with twelve panes, but the second and third windows from the left have modern glazing. The ground floor includes shopfronts dating from around 1900 and the mid-20th century.
The eastern gable end is rendered, while the western gable has some slate hanging. The rear of the building has modern additions on the ground floor.
