Description
This is a well head located at the north end of Combrook village, dating from around 1860 and possibly designed by John Gibson for the Compton Verney estate. The structure is made of rubble and coursed dressed limestone, featuring sandstone and limestone ashlar dressings. It has a gabled roof with coping and a double-chamfered ogee arch, which is framed by banded outer voussoirs and attached shafts. Inside, there is a cusped inner arch adorned with ballflower in hollow-chamfered mouldings. The well head includes a semicircular trough with a back inlet that is now filled in, and there is a shield on the gable. The semicircular rear wall is constructed of rubble and has a corbelled roof.
