Description
This is a terrace of three houses located on Village Street, Combrook, dating from approximately 1870. It was likely designed by John Gibson for the Compton Verney estate. The houses are constructed of rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings, and feature a red, buff, and blue brick cornice with cogged and modillioned details. The roofs are tiled, with buff brick cross-axial stacks topped with caps.
The houses have a four-unit plan and a gabled design, with a cross-wing at each end. The front elevation has a four-window range plus the cross-wings. Coped gables define the roofline. The central entrance and the re-entrant entrances are framed by segmental-pointed heads, leading to plank doors with strap hinges, placed behind open timber gabled porches.
The ground floor windows are set within segmental-pointed, rock-faced relieving arches, and comprise three segmental-pointed lights with stop-chamfered mullions, alongside a small light near each entrance. The attic windows are similar two-light designs in gabled half-dormers, with small lights situated between the dormers and the wings. The wings themselves feature three-light windows with a narrow light above. The rear elevation shows a number of wings and brick window openings.
The interior of the houses has not been inspected.
