Description
A terrace of ten town houses located on College Lane in Stratford-upon-Avon, built in 1851 by William Holtom. The houses are constructed of brick with buff headers, topped with a slate roof and brick end stacks, and four cross-axial stacks. They are designed in a Georgian style, arranged over two storeys with a ten-window frontage. A top brick cornice runs along the top of the building. The entrances are paired and round-headed, most featuring blind fanlights and six-flush-panel doors. However, Nos. 39, 40, 41, and 46 have 20th-century replacement doors. No. 41 features a fanlight with radial glazing bars, while Nos. 42 and 43 have paired entrances with panelled pilasters and overlights to six-flush-panelled doors. An entablature extends over canted bay windows with 4:16:4-pane sashes. Segmental-headed entries with plank doors are located to the left of No. 40 and to the right of No. 43. The windows are generally segmental-headed with 16-pane sashes, though No. 39 has 20th-century casements, No. 41 has 4-pane sashes, and No. 46 has a 20th-century casement to the first floor. The development occupies land previously occupied by a medieval priests' college until 1799 and represents an area of high-quality housing from the early 19th century.
