Description

The Homestead is a farmhouse incorporating a former cow shed and coach house, dating to the 16th and 17th centuries, with later additions and alterations including an 19th-century barn to the right and a conversion and addition around 1986 to the far right. The building is constructed of timber framing with arch braces to the left part, featuring pinkish-brown brick nogging, alongside brickwork, and has a plain-tile roof. The plan is L-shaped, with further ranges to the right and a rear range positioned off-centre to the right.

The exterior is single-storey with attics, featuring three attic windows arranged 1:2 to the left part. The right part has two storeys and one first-floor window. The earliest part, to the left, features a projecting wing with a plank door in a moulded wood frame under a cambered arch, flanked by two-light wood casements. Above is a gabled attic dormer with a casement. The main range of the oldest section has three wood casements to the ground floor and two gabled attic dormers with casements above. To the right (formerly the coach house and stables), an entrance has a plank door with overlight between a two-light and three-light casement, all under a cambered arch. The first floor has a four-light casement. The building has gabled roofs throughout.

The interior of the left part features extensive timber framing, chamfered beams, and an inglenook fireplace to the centre, with a bressumer beam and an adjacent staircase. Close-studded walling on a stone plinth is found at the end of the earlier range. The first floor has an exposed wall plate and rafters. The rear cow shed has an exposed three-bay coupled rafter roof.
