Description

Canal Bridge Number 44 is a split bridge located on the South Stratford Canal, built in the early 19th century. It features brick abutments that support two cantilevered cast-iron decks. The decks are designed with cross-framed integral handrails and are split to accommodate tow ropes. The bridge has solid brick, splayed parapet walls topped with brick and stone coping. The South Stratford Canal was constructed between 1812 and 1816.
