Description

The Woodlands is a late 18th-century hunting lodge that has been converted into a house, with some 19th-century additions. It is likely designed by Capability Brown. The building is constructed of sandstone ashlar with some brick and features slate and lead roofs with ashlar stacks. The layout includes a complex plan with a polygonal wing on the left, a central range, and a projecting cross-wing on the right.

The lodge is two storeys high and has a five-window range. A 20th-century plank door is set within a hexagonal porch that has a wooden cornice with modillions. The ground floor of the left polygonal range features 12-pane unhorned sash windows, as do the right side of the door and the front of the right wing. There is one blind window on the right facade of the wing. The first floor of the polygonal range has 9-pane unhorned sash windows, while those in the main range and right wing have keyblocks. The building also has a plinth and a band at the first-floor level, along with a stone modillion eaves cornice.

Inside, there are some panelled and some plank doors, and one chamfered beam with an ogee stop.
