Description
Hungerley Hall Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with extensions from the mid-18th century and alterations from the late 18th to 19th centuries. It is constructed of red brick and features a plain-tile roof with brick ridge and end stacks. The building has a complex plan and the main front faces the garden. It is two storeys high with a cellar and has a four-window range of three-light casement windows, with the two central windows positioned under brick cambered arches. Below these windows is a door set within a wooden lattice porch that has a gabled hood. To the right, there is a similar three-light casement window, while to the left, there is a two-light casement. A further two-light casement is located at the far right, and there is a blocked window at the far left, where a first-floor band is also present.
The variations in brickwork, along with evidence from the interior, indicate that the original structure was a timber-framed three-unit-plan house that was extended in brick at both ends in the mid-18th century. The timber framing was then refronted in brick in the late 18th to early 19th centuries, and the section of the roof to the centre and left was slightly raised in the mid-19th century. The rendered left end of the building features a four-light casement window with a three-light window above it, while the right end includes various casement windows, lean-tos, and steps leading to a first-floor doorway.
The rear of the farmhouse primarily has three-light casement windows, with a cross-wing projecting to the centre-left and a second span extension to its left, which has a gable facing left. There is also a further single-storey extension to the centre right, which has a doorway to the left and a small canted bay to the right. Inside, the farmhouse features chamfered beams, an open fireplace with a bressumer, and a cellar with brick thrawls. The first floor includes a plank door, a two-panel door, a hood over the open fireplace, a timber-framed partition, old floorboards, a second fireplace hood, and wall posts.
