Description
West Lodge is a house that was formerly a lodge, built in the late 18th century. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar with some brick at the ends, and it originally had a lead roof that has since been removed. The building is two storeys high and features a two-window range, with one-storey, one-bay wings on both the left and right sides. The design is reminiscent of a Roman triumphal arch, with a central archway. On either side of the archway, there are round-headed sash windows with 12 panes, and additional 12-pane sashes in the wings, all topped with wedge lintels. Above the round-headed sashes on the left and right, there are blind windows also with wedge lintels. The main range is flanked by Corinthian pilasters that support an entablature, and there is a plinth and a band at the first floor level. The wings have parapets, and there are urns at the left and right corners of the main range, which are decorated with festoons.
