Description
East Lodge, formerly the lodge to Combe Abbey, dates from around the 1770s and is likely designed by Lancelot 'Capability' Brown. The building is constructed of brick with smooth rendering and features a tiled roof with brick stacks at the center. It stands two storeys high, with a central octagonal range flanked by two one-bay wings, all designed in the Gothick style.
The entrance on the left has a plank door topped by a blind ogee arch. To the center and right, there are two-light casement windows, also with blind ogee heads. On the first floor of the central range, there is a square-headed two-light casement window. Above the door and to the right window, there is an arrow slit motif. The hexagonal range has moulded rainwater heads and drains on each side, is machicolated, and features a parapet. There is a 20th-century one-storey extension to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
