Description
Peter Hall is a house that was originally a 14th and 15th century church, converted into a house in the 16th century, with later 18th century extensions. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar with an old tile roof, and has brick stacks on the ridge and at the ends. The house is two storeys high and has a five-window front. A 20th century part-glazed door is set under a leaded overlight featuring stained glass, with a wooden pilaster doorcase beside it. To the left of the door, in the angle created by the chapel and a wing, is a leaded-light window with stained glass, above which is a 19th century casement window. To the right of the door is a 16-pane sash window with a stone lintel. A two-light casement with 16 panes is centrally placed on the first floor. A wing to the left has French doors with an overlight, and 12-pane casement windows above. To the right is a 19th century canted bay with a 12-pane sash window above, set within a segmented brick arch. On the north side, a 14th century plank door is within a badly worn, chamfered arch. Diagonal offset buttresses are visible on the south-east corner of the former church, the north-east corner, and on the late 18th century wing to the north. Inside, a 16th century ceiling with moulded beams has been inserted into the ground storey. The first storey retains a 15th century roof, likely the original chancel roof, with an 18th or 19th century roof above. This was formerly the Church of St. Peter.
