Description

Two cottages, possibly with origins in the 17th century, were significantly altered in the late 18th or early 19th century, and No.69 has a taller right-hand range. No.70 has mid-to-late 20th-century additions and alterations. The cottages are built of whitewashed brick, with roughcast to the rear of No.70 facing the road. They have thatched roofs with brick ridge and right-end stacks. The plan extends from two to three units. One range is a single storey with an attic, while the other is two storeys, displaying a three-window front. The main facade faces the garden.

No.70, on the left, has an entrance in the left return side of a large single-storey addition. It features a 2-light casement window on the ground floor and a dormer window. No.69 has a single-storey projection with a slate roof on the right side, and two 2-light windows with glazing bars. A plank door is situated on the left return side. The ground floor of No.69 has a 2-light 20th-century casement on the left, a 3-light casement with glazing bars, and a 2-light casement with cross glazing, all beneath a single blackened wood lintel. An eyebrow dormer hosts a 2-light part-leaded casement, and a small, one-light swept dormer is positioned on the right. One window range faces the road. No.69 has 2-light casements, with a brick segmental arch over the ground-floor window. No.70 has smaller windows. Glazing bars are present throughout both cottages. The interior of No.70 contains a ceiling beam and an altered open fireplace. The cottages are included on the list for their group value.
