Description
The Old Forge is a cottage that incorporates a former forge, dating from the 17th century with later alterations. It features a timber frame with square framing and brick infill from various periods. The roof is thatched, with a brick stack at the right end and a ridge stack on the wing. There is a one-storey range at right angles on the right side, likely from the 18th or 19th century, which has some framing but is mostly brick with a tiled roof. The building is in an L-plan layout, with the wing at the rear fronting the road. It is one storey with an attic and has a two-window range. The entrance to the one-storey range has a ribbed door and two small arched lights. The main range features a three-light leaded casement window with a painted wood lintel and plank shutters on the right side. On the left, there are paired two-light casements from the 19th century, all with glazing bars. The roof includes swept dormers and a small cross-glazed window between the floors. The left return side facing the road has a lower wing on the left and a two-window range. The interior has not been inspected.
