Description
Oakdene is a cottage that was originally two separate homes, dating from the 15th or 16th century, with alterations and additions made in the 19th century and late 20th century. The building is timber framed, featuring large framing with tension braces. The infill, underbuilding, and many of the additions are primarily made of 19th-century brick. The roofs are covered with plain tiles, and there are brick stacks at the ridge and on the right end.
The cottage is designed in a 2-unit layout, which may have originally been a single-ended hall house, and has been extended to a 3-unit plan with a jettied cross wing on the left. It has one storey and an attic, comprising three bays and a two-window range. The right range includes a late 20th-century door and features late 20th-century two- and three-light casements. The cross wing is notable for its large curved brackets supporting the jetty. Additionally, the right range has a two-light dormer, while the left return side of the cross wing has rendered infill on the first floor. The interior is characterized by exposed beams.
