Griff Clara, Arbury Park Griff Lodges Left Lodge

Griff Clara is an entrance lodge located at Arbury Park, dating from the late 18th century, with mid to late 20th century additions. The building is constructed of regularly coursed sandstone and features an old plain-tile pyramid roof with a parapet. It has a one-unit plan with additional structures. Designed in the Gothick style, the lodge is a single storey with a one-window range. The large moulded 4-centred arched window has deep splayed reveals and Y-tracery with Gothick glazing, and there is a stone shield above it. A moulded cornice with some carved ornament and grotesques at the corners adds to its decorative features. The right return side includes a roll-moulded 4-centred arched former doorway, which has a 20th-century two-light casement inserted. There is a single-storey addition to the left and a two-storey range to the rear, both of which are rendered and colourwashed. The interior has not been inspected.
