Description
Back Lodge is an entrance lodge built in the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed from rendered and painted brick and features a slate roof with a gable at the front. Designed in the Gothick style, the building has two storeys, a plinth, and raised eaves and verges, along with an integral brick end stack at the rear.
The front of the lodge has three bays and includes a central projecting two-storey porch with a coped battlemented parapet. There is a circular blind window on the first floor and a pair of two trefoil-panelled doors set back in an arched recess, which is topped by a Y-traceried arched overlight. The ground floor has arched windows with Y-tracery on the return fronts, along with flanking first-floor blind quatre-foil windows and ground-floor arched casements that also feature Y-tracery.
On the right-hand return front, there is a first-floor three-light casement and a ground-floor two-light casement. At the rear, there is a lower two-storey block.
