Description

The Church of St. Paul is a church built between 1870 and 1872 by E. Holmes of Birmingham. It is constructed of ashlar stone with tile roofs and is designed in the Early English style. The church features a 2-bay chancel with a south vestry and a 4-bay nave. It has narrow offset and angle buttresses, along with coped gables. The chancel includes a sill course and a 3-light east window with Geometrical tracery. On the north side, there is a cusped lancet and a narrow projection for the organ, while the south side has a cusped lancet east of the square vestry, which also has cusped lancets. The west entrance has a segmental-pointed head and a small splayed spire with lucarnes, connected by a plastered block. The nave contains cusped lancets on both the north and south sides, and the south gabled porch has a plain chamfered pointed entrance with paired doors. The west window features 4 lights with Geometrical tracery, and the east gable has a bell turret with blocked pointed openings.

Inside, the church has deep arch-braced roofs, with the chancel roof being corbelled. The chancel arch is supported by corbels that are carved with vine, wheat, passion flower, and lily designs, and there are low walls in the chancel. The east window contains stained glass by Hardman and Co, while other windows feature 20th-century stained glass.
