Description

Dosthill House is a house with attached pavilions and a wall, dating from the late 18th century, likely with a core from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of stuccoed brick with ashlar dressings and features a hipped slate roof with buff brick stacks. The building has a double-depth plan, stands three storeys tall, and has a two-window range with an attached two-window range that breaks forward to the right. There are sill bands on all floors and a narrow top cornice.

The entrance features a tetrastyle porch supported by Doric columns with fluted capitals, and an Ionic entablature with a fluted frieze that includes swags and paterae under a pediment. The entrance has a half-glazed door flanked by 8-pane sash windows. The windows throughout the building include 12-pane sashes, with 9-pane sashes on the second floor.

On the left side of the building, there are two full-height canted bays with French windows on the ground floor, 12-pane sashes on the first floor, and 9-pane sashes on the second floor. The right side has two wings, one featuring a hipped tile roof, which flanks a stair window. The rear of the house has varied window styles and includes a two-storey wing with a gabled pitching hole and a single-storey range to the right.

The pavilions to the right of the entrance front have pilaster strips, sill and impost bands on the round-headed windows, and pedimental gables with end stacks, one of which has blind windows. A stone-coped wall between the pavilions has a central entrance with paired timber gates and flanking round-headed entrances, one of which is blocked.

Inside, there is a dog-leg stair to the right of the hall, featuring an open string and turned balusters. Some rooms have cornices and shuttered windows.
