Description
The Works at Cliff Public House and Restaurant is a building that has been converted from a house to bars and a restaurant. It dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with a mid-19th century addition on the left side. The structure is made of brick with a whitewashed rendered front and features a painted moulded wood cornice. It has plain-tile roofs and two 19th-century brick ridge stacks. The building is L-shaped with a wing at the rear and stands three storeys tall, with a three-window range and a two-storey one-window addition.
The main façade includes a six-panelled door with an overlight featuring glazing bars and panelled reveals, along with a rendered Tuscan porch supported by pilasters and columns. The ground floor has canted bay windows with sash windows. On the first floor, there are 20-pane sash windows and a central 16-pane sash, along with a two-light casement window with glazing bars to the right. The second floor features 10-pane sash windows and a central 8-pane sash. The addition on the left side has a doorway with wooden pilaster strips, simple consoles, and a cornice, as well as a two-light casement window with glazing bars and a 16-pane sash window above. The rear wing contains some segmental-arched iron windows. The interior has not been inspected.
