Description
This is an early to mid-19th century barn, located approximately 2 metres east of Stable House Farmhouse in Kingsley, Cheshire. The barn is constructed from moulded copper-slag blocks with sandstone ashlar dressings, and has a tiled roof with verge parapets. A small ridge stack is situated to the left of the centre. The front elevation is two stories high and features four 2-light chamfered mullioned windows, inset from the right side over four openings. Most of these windows have been enlarged or inserted, with a portion of the original 2-light window remaining in the first floor to the right. A round-arched entrance is located in the right gable end, accessed by a flight of steps. The grouping of buildings, including the farmhouse and two barns, is unusual in the area due to its use of copper-slag blocks. A smelting site, approximately 200 metres north of the buildings, may have served as a demonstration of the blocks' potential for wider distribution, a project that was not realised. The lane's name may be linked to the distinctive, iridescent appearance of the copper-slag construction.
