Description

This is a road bridge over the Caldon Canal, specifically the Leek Branch, built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from coursed, squared, and dressed rubble. The bridge features slightly concave sides that end in piers, and it has an elliptical arch. Below the parapets, there is a string course with rounded copings that arches over the carriageway. The Leek branch of the Caldon Canal was opened around 1801, and the engineer responsible for its design was John Rennie.
