Description
This is a road bridge over the Caldon Canal, specifically the Leek Branch, built in the early 19th century. It is constructed from coursed, squared, and dressed rubble. The bridge features slightly concave sides that end in piers, with an elliptical arch. Below the parapets, there is a string course, and the rounded copings are cambered over the carriageway. The Leek branch of the Caldon Canal was opened around 1801, and the engineer responsible for its design was John Rennie.
