Description

This hand pump and its enclosure, located approximately 20 meters south of Hawes Farmhouse, date from the late 19th century. The pump is made of cast iron and features a shaft divided into three banded stages, with an enlarged fluted head that stands about 1200mm above ground level and a double-curved handle. The enclosure is surrounded by a random coursed stone retaining wall on three sides. To the left of the pump, there is a plaque that reads: "THIS SMALL PLOT OF LAND/WAS GIVEN BY/T.BRANDON/ROCHDALE/MARCH 1ST 1876".
