Description
This is a group of three chest tombs located approximately 1 to 3 meters north of the north aisle of the Church of St Luke. The western tomb is a memorial for Elizabeth Sutton, who died in 1738. The central tomb commemorates Anne Nickson, who died in 1735, and the eastern tomb is for H.N. Ball, who died in 1823. All three tombs are made of stone. The Sutton memorial features reeded pilasters and two inscribed panels on the sides. The Nickson memorial is tall, with a substantial moulded cyma recta plinth and cornice on the frieze, along with inset panels between plain pilasters. The Ball memorial has moulded pilasters at the corners, a moulded plinth and slab, and incised paired panels on the sides. The 18th century tombs likely were moved to their current location to clear the graveyard.
