Description
Home Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1628, constructed from coursed and squared sandstone with timber-framing internally, and features plain-tiled roofs. The building is two storeys high with attics and has a T-plan layout. The entrance front has been re-modelled; the original doorway, which was located to the right and formed an end-lobby entrance against the stack, is now blocked. The date is inscribed on the lintel of this doorway. The current entrance is towards the centre of the main range, with another entrance in the cross-wing at the rear, which is also blocked.
The original windows on the southern elevation are well-preserved, featuring 5-light mullioned windows on each floor of the main range and the gable of the wing, along with a 2-light firewindow to the left of the main range. Although there have been some modifications to the internal layout, the details of the original plan remain, including a hall or house-place in the main range and two rooms in the cross-wing. The bressumer of the original fireplace in the west wall of the hall is still intact, and the present corridor running the length of the house to the north likely incorporates the heck wall adjacent to the original entrance. The interior has not been inspected.
