Description

Thinghill Grange is a farmhouse that dates back to the 14th century but was mainly remodeled in the 18th century. It features a timber frame that is clad in coursed sandstone and rendered brick, with slate roofs. There is an external stone stack on the east return and a ridge stack located to the left of the center. The building has an H-plan layout, consisting of a former hall range at the center, a solar cross-wing at the west end, and a former buttery wing at the east end.

The farmhouse is two stories high and has five windows on the principal entrance front facing south, arranged symmetrically in a 1:2:1 pattern, with a subsidiary window to the right side of the main range. The first-floor windows are glazing bar sashes, with the center two paired and featuring external shutters. The left gable has a mid-19th century two-light casement window on the ground floor, and all first-floor and gable end windows have projecting keystones.

A lean-to early 20th-century verandah covers the windows of the central range and provides entry to the right of center. Inside, the hall range includes a spere-truss and an ogee head leading to the service cross-wing. The solar wing, originally composed of four bays, has exposed arch braces supporting a cambered moulded tie-beam, which in turn supports cusped principals and raking struts.
