Description

Court Farmhouse is a farmhouse that is now partly used as a store and partly empty. It dates back to the 14th century, with alterations and additions from the 17th century and later. The building is constructed from timber framing and brick, with a rendered finish. The hall range has pantiles, while the cross-wings are covered with slates. A large external rubble stack features diagonally set clustered brick shafts at the east junction of the hall and cross-wing, with a side stack in a corresponding position on the west side of the cross-wing.

The farmhouse has a T-plan layout, with the main hall range aligned roughly north/south and a 17th-century cross-wing added to the south end. The main range consists of four bays, and the cross-wing, which was remodeled in the 19th century, now has three windows. The main range is one storey and an attic, while the cross-wing has two storeys and an attic.

On the west elevation, there are two plus one windows, with exposed unfenestrated timber framing, three panels high to the left. There are two entrances from a high rubble plinth to the centre of the hall range, and a four-light late 19th-century casement to the right, with two gabled dormers above. The gable end of the cross-wing features an attic light. The south elevation has regular mid-20th-century casements and a central glazed door under a gabled porch.

Inside, there is a 14th-century spere truss and spere posts, along with a cruck and cusped raking struts remaining in the south end of the hall part. Much of the interior timber is whitewashed.
