Description
The Yeld is an early to mid 18th century L-plan house that was altered in the mid 19th century. It has two storeys and attics, with elevations that were originally brick above a stone plinth but are now rendered and color washed. The house features gable and clay tile roofs with two end stacks. There is a projecting left-hand cross-wing that includes a mid to late 19th century pent roof canted bay window on the ground floor and a tripartite window above it, along with an attic casement. The centre and right-hand bays have early to mid 19th century glazing bar sashes, while a semi-dormer has a casement window. A broad porch with free-standing Doric columns and an entablature leads to a door with six fielded panels.
Inside, the staircase spans the full width of the hall, and the service wing is accessed through a separate stone-paved lobby behind the stairs. There is a brick vaulted cellar. The ground floor living room features a corner niche by the fireplace, and the northern reception room retains an exposed chamfered ceiling beam and joists, along with a deeply moulded architrave surrounding the inglenook. The staircase is dog-legged with turned columnar banisters, a closed string, plain newels, and a simply moulded handrail. The upper floor rooms have doors with fielded panels, most of which have "L" hinges, and one door has a brass catch and handle.
